Busy week and rain…..

I’ve been a bit quiet recently as we went to visit the in-laws and stayed with them for nearly a week. We got home really late Monday night, and first thing Tuesday Morning I had to be up and ready for a Compound Coffee Morning. Thankfully, it was on my compound so I didn’t have far to go, and plus, as I’m a resident, I didn’t have to pay a fee for the table, so it was quite a good day, however I hadn’t realised how small the tables were as I haven’t been a vendor on my compound before so I couldn’t fit everything I wanted to on, and it looked a bit squished.

Whereas at Wednesdays Coffee Morning which was in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Charity, the table was absolutely enormous and as I didn’t bring all my stock thinking it would be small table, it looks a bit sparse! image

Also, even though there were a lot more people there, I didn’t do as well. I’m being very general here as a lot of my friends have been buying my soaps and really supporting me, however it does seem that the coffee mornings where there are a lot of Westerners, I don’t do so well, but on the compounds where there are a lot of Arabs and other nationalities, I seem to do really well. A few vendors that specialise in beauty type products have said the same thing, however we’re not really sure why this is.

The little helped in the background is my son Tommy. It’s been raining here for the past couple of days and because of that, the schools were closed……

I’m from the UK so find this really funny, it’s pretty much how the UK comes to a standstill when there is a bit of snow, well Saudi comes to a standstill when there is rain. This is because they don’t have a proper drainage system. There are no drains, so there is nowhere for the water to go. As they only have rainfall a few days of the year, it’s not worth investing in, however Jeddah (about a 10 hour drive from Riyadh) had extremely bad floods so I think they will need to start looking into providing some sort of system.

What did surprise me though, was the amount of families sat outside on the wet sand having pick-nicks! I guess as in the UK we are fed up of it raining all the time, over here, it’s not a common thing so they were taking advantage of the school closures and were being outside having fun in the rain which I thought was a really lovely thing to see.
